“Once you get past the realization that it’s the greatest thing you’ve ever laid eyes on, you may notice it looks nothing like anything resembling a magazine. And there’s a good reason for that.
We have no idea what we’re doing.”
And thus kicks off Funny or Die’s inaugural issue of The Occasional, a digital magazine designed to compliment its viral video factory funnyordie.com.
Released “occasionally” (read: every two months), the humor mag features much the same content you’d expect from mainstream periodicals, with two exceptions: 1) It’s interactive; and 2) It’s funny. Really, really funny.
Swipe, tap, and drag your way through articles like the Craigslist-style “Dog Missed Connections” or an email correspondence between Videogum’s Gabe Delahaye and a spammer offering blind European children for adoption. Zach Galifianakis’s popular “Between Two Ferns” series gets a fresh episode with Ed Helms (The Office, The Hangover).
At the end of the first issue (available for free in the App Store), readers are invited to record and email a five-second sound bite to let Funny or Die know how they did.
We expect a lot of positive feedback.
