We’ve mistakenly heralded the arrival of warm weather here in New York a few too many times.
So from now on we’re going to leave the predictions to Forecast, the new weather service from the creators of Dark Sky.
Forecast is at once a minimalist thing of beauty and a data-rich hub of weather nerdery. Up-to-the-minute global forecasts are displayed in mind-blowing radar animations and cheerful motion-rich icons (dubbed Skycons).
Planning a picnic? Forecast can tell you exactly when it’ll go from “Partly Cloudy” to “Clear,” when the wind will die down, and just how warm it’ll be when you whip out the sandwiches.
Forecast’s app-like mobile site is a much-welcomed innovation (check it out on your phone – it’s pretty sweet). But our favorite feature is the Time Machine, which provides weather reports for bygone years and predicts ones far into the future.
It helps us remember better times, like when last year’s high in New York was 82.
