We made our Netted Valentine’s Day guide for a reason: No matter how hard we try, the flowers and gifts always seem to fall flat. This year, we’re deciding to go for broke in the name of originality.
This Valentine’s Day, instead of showering a loved one with the typical gifts, we’re naming a cockroach for them by making a $10 donation to the Bronx Zoo.
The site says it best: “Naming a roach in honor of someone near and dear to your heart shows that you’ve noticed how resilient, resourceful, and loyal that person is. Or maybe it’s in recognition of your one and only’s virility, or strength in the face of high radiation. You’re not afraid to say, “Baby, you’re a roach!”
You’ll receive a certificate, so feel free to brag that the Madagascar hissing roach is the biggest and loudest type of cockroach to all of your friends.
Clearly, there is absolutely nothing that says “I love you” like a gigantic, hissing bug.
