Mornings are rough. Waking up? Leaving the house? Woof. This video shows you the 5 apps you need to get going and start your day off right.
OPEN: Hi, I’m Netted’s Senior Editor Charlie Kaplan, and this is Netted Does.
INTRO: A 2013 survey found that 84% of smartphone users do the same thing when they wake up: check an app. 84%! That’s a ridiculous number. For something so many of us do, let’s make sure your morning is tricked out with apps that can handle your morning breath.
SLEEP CYCLE: Before we even think about waking up, let’s talk about getting a good night’s rest. That begins with SleepCycle, a mobile app that monitors the quality of your sleep. Lay it out on your mattress and it detects your tossing and turning in the night. Plus it’s got a white noise machine and an alarm that monitors your movements to figure out the best time in your REM cycle to wake you up so you feel the most rested.
FORECAST.IO: Then…the worst happens – you wake up. You’ll need to check the weather. The best option for that is a website called Forecast.io. This savvy little site works as an app and delivers the weather down to the minute for the rest of the day. Also it’s easy on the eyes early in the morning.
CIRCA: Now that your morning is coming into focus, use Circa to catch up on the news without killing too much time. This app winnows down the day’s breaking stories into short, couple-sentence long summaries you can read in bed.
SCOUT / MOOVIT: Then you actually have to get up and go to work. If you use public transit, Moovit will figure out what the fastest route is based on service changes and subway schedules. If you’re a driver, Scout analyzes traffic patterns to help you find the quickest way.
OUTRO: I know not everybody is a morning person, and that’s cool. But these five apps should help give you a leg up to begin the day. Also, brush your teeth, dude.
